Congratulations!!!!! You are a vain motherfucker
Goth and chances are only like bands where the
people are pretty and hot. You are a borderline
groupie, but want to be a good girl/guy. You
are pretty sexy, but you can be shallow and
smug as a motherfucker!

What Gothic Subtype Are You?
brought to you by Quizilla

I'm not convinced, though. A lot of these quizzes really need a second index, something along the line of "how confused are you?" to measure how strongly you scored.

In other news, I've just had the damp man round, and he says that their damp-proofing is fine (good), and the neighbours' baths aren't leaking (good good), but that the new plastering has too much salt in it and is therefore damp and will need to be torn out and replaced, at a cost of four hundred and twenty five pounds (for a fairly small area).

Grk.

I could ignore the problem, but there will never be a better time to replaster, while the bedroom floor is still partly unlaid, so I think I'd better stump up the money.

Then there's the matter of the blown-down-fence (still propped up, with the gate unusable). And the fan for the bathroom. And the carpet that needs replacing.

I'm never going to have new clothes or footwear again. Or a table. Or a bookcase. Or CDs. Or travel to see people ...

This business of being an adult is highly overrated!

Maybe you could try for a second opinion on your plaster, as it sounds a bit odd to me. I don't get the equation 'too much salt = damp' at all. At the very least, if you get a professional plasterer (as opposed to damp guy) in to look at it, he might offer you a lower quotation.

I could understand 'lots of salt is leaching out of your plaster, therefore it is damp'. But to me, this would mean that the answer wasn't just gaily replastering so much as addressing the root cause of the dampness (and it sounds like there's no clear culprit for this). What I don't know is how long the current plaster has been there, i.e. should it, by all rights, have dried out long ago - Holly?

Anyway, my knowledge of plaster, salt, dampness and the relationship between them is all pretty minimal, which is why I reckon a second opinion (or even a third and fourth) is the way ahead. Go with the guy who sounds most like he's making logical sense!

Hygroscopic is the word he used when he looked at it. I get the impression that the sand used to mix up the plaster was too salty, and so the plaster's pulling humidity into the walls from the air. Which might be ok except this wall's next to the bathroom.

The real irritation is that the underlying cause of the damp (well, except for the bathroom) has been dealt with by the insertion of a damp proof course. The damp proof course was plastered over (in May), and, hey presto, expense is my uncle.

Or something.

I could go and try and get some redress from the people who did the plastering, but I suspect they'd come back and say it wasn't their fault, and people might be mean, and ...

Oh, I see. Well that makes sense, then. Maybe you could get some big tough, gruff-sounding male friend to try demanding redress from the plastering people?
