Went Out last night. [livejournal.com profile] godgirl and [livejournal.com profile] minusbat and I all trundled down to Southampton to see Faetal, Living with Eating Disorders, Devilish Presley, and Leisur Hive. Faetal were good, as always. Tim seems to be getting ever better at doing the cool-guitar-playing shuffle. Living with Eating Disorders were a bit self-involved and self-indulgent for my tastes, although I can see why people like them. Leisur Hive reminded me an awful lot of a goth radiohead. It might have been nice to listen to on CD, in a cerebral kind of way, but it left a bit to be desired in a small crowd near bedtime on a school night. It was hard not to feel bored when the entire band looked so bored. I'm also now forced to retract my Cruxshadows theory that all a goth band has to do to add instant crowd appeal is include a violinist.

The undoubted highlight of the night were Devilish Presley. I had a feeling I'd like them, and have been meaning to go see them for a while, and I was not disappointed. High high class gothabilly was in order. The band managed to play their instruments at a pretty fierce pace, all while simultanously singing and bopping and adopting ridiculous playing positions. I'm still not convinced it's actually cool to play your guitar at ankle-height, but bonus points nonetheless for managing it. And Jacqui Vixen had a fab deep voice.

If only their merchandise came in blue instead of red ....
